Artwalk with Karyn Dunbar

Friday, October 5th, 5 – 9pm Reception – Free!

Returning to my favorite environment at Barjons Books and more is always a wonderful homecoming for my crows and ravens.. This year I will be bringing more prints. Now more than ever we need images that comfort and inspire to keep our spirits lifted. I will be bringing highly affordable, visual prayers designed for small intimate spaces, as well as some larger works.

A chance encounter with an Arapaho elder some two decades ago introduced me to my artistic spirit guides. Since then my studio gallery in Shell, Wyoming has been home to scores of my images of ravens and buffalo.

After retiring from 40 years of teaching art in public schools and privately, I have devoted my full artistic energy to the many faces of these mythic birds, bison, and images that are echoes of my Celtic heritage.

Nature is a great teacher and can act as a mirror for human behavior. The creatures and mythology inform my artistic message.

My art is in collections in much of the United States and several other countries. Some years ago I was fortunate to have an exhibit of my work in Athens, Greece. One of my works was presented by the President of Ireland to the Granuaille Museum in Louisburg on that country’s west coast. International adventures are great but I am most happy near the Big Horn mountains at home in Wyoming where I hope to keep creating for many years to come.

Artwalk with Elizabeth Waddington & Rachel Larson Long

Friday, October 5th, 5 – 9pm Reception – Free!

Finding Center is a collaborative show of Rachel Larson Long and Elizabeth Waddington. Mandalas can be found in nature or created by humans and have been used by many cultures throughout history.

“In the circle we experience perfect symmetry, integrity, unity, and completeness and beyond those qualities, the visual equivalent of eternity.” Fontana & Tenzin-Dolma. Our mandalas reflect our individual experiences and attempts to integrate and find meaning through symmetry, repetition and symbolism. As a meditation tool they can be used in mindfulness practices. Mandalas can be used to expand understanding and help connect with the bigger universe. As a reflection tool, the act of creating a mandala can bring you home to your own center.

Rachel Larson Long, art therapist and retired art teacher, often incorporates intense color, flowing line, and overlapping shapes to create symbolic abstract images. Nature, music, and the mysteries of life are explored through acrylic painting and mixed media works.

Elizabeth Rock Waddington, retired librarian and art teacher, has returned to her art roots. She grew up in a family of multigenerational artists where materials were always available to experiment with and encouragement for self-expression was freely given.

June Artwalk – Featuring Nikki Shiva

Please join us at the opening reception, Friday, June 1 from 5pm to 7pm. Open to the public!

Artist Nikki Shiva hails from New York. She began creating sacred fractals in 2012 and has been a featured guest at the Yellowstone Art Museum, as well as several other Artwalks. Nikki’s work is currently featured on a traffic box in downtown Billings in the area of Broadway and Montana Ave.

We welcome you to come and experience Nikki’s new collection “Sacred Etheric Images” at The June Artwalk at Barjon’s Books. Nikki has a very strong passion for the higher dimensions and her work conveys this message with love. Many of her pieces, although abstract, resonate with the spirit of the Elemental.
